Wherever the yatra went, hundreds of people were at first curious, then surprised to see the parody and lampooning. Smiles spread as they got the meaning of the joke, which made them think hard. The dormant anger towards scams, scams-raj and corruption started getting articulated.

Rajvani would begin his speech with: ‘Citizen friends! The scams (on the umbrella) which you see here are not scams, they are in fact the soul of democracy. This is the diet of the officers and politicians. Never let this diet reduce, in fact let it increase, so that the country becomes stronger. If the leaders of a country are weak, that country will also be weak, so keep feeding your leaders, don’t let them get weak.’

A song that accompanied the rath was equally satirical and took the spirit of the religious overtones in the tune of the lyrics. The lyrics, however, were very different.

Ghotala raj ki jai-jai bolo!

Jai-jai bolo, jai-jai bolo!

Bhrashtachar kar, hari-hari bolo!
